Life Is Unfair – This universally understood phrase encapsulates the moments when logic fails, effort goes unrewarded, and fortune smiles upon the undeserving. It is in the face of this inherent imbalance that true character is revealed.
Your challenge is to delve into the heart of an unfair situation. Is it a sudden stroke of bad luck, a systemic injustice, or a cruel twist of fate? Explore the immediate emotional fallout—the rage, the despair, the bitter resignation. More importantly, show us what happens next. Does your protagonist fight back, surrender to the inevitable, or find a peculiar kind of peace in the chaos?
Craft a narrative that centers on a specific injustice and its profound, lasting effect on an individual or community. Show us the world through the eyes of someone who knows the score is rigged. Your story should be a powerful exploration of perseverance, acceptance, or the fight for a fairness that may never arrive.
The prompt does not have to be quoted directly, but your story should refer to the prompt in some way, directly or indirectly.

Voice Contest Guidelines
Prize: $25 Amazon Gift Card
- One story per person - 350 Words Max Limit
- Fiction only - no poems, memoirs, nonfiction or essays
- Minimum of 10 shortlisted submissions to award a prize
- Maximum of 40 shortlisted entries per contest
- The list of finalists will be created after the entry deadline has passed
- The finalist list will include the stories with the highest number of views on YouTube, based on the total number of entries
- The finalist list will also include stories selected by staff
- Winners will be selected from the finalist list by all members via an email voting poll
- First, second and third place winners will be displayed with corresponding blue, red and white ribbons
- Only the first place winner will be awarded an Amazon gift certificate
